Challenge Coin

Kannon was a coach's son who was humbled at a young age and was taught to fight for every inch of success. Kannon batted at the bottom end of the lineup for years in travel ball, because he was not better than the other fielders. He never pitched in tournaments due to lack of command along with not being a top 8 - 9 arm on the team.

The best motivation in sports is competition. Kannon loved that and adored sports so failure was not an option to him. Hard work consisting of ground balls after ground balls, getting extra swings outside of practice along with working on his approach at the plate. Many long conversations, to where he became a student of the game he loved. Then the process started to come along as the body became athletic, as he grew into his 6’6” 200 lbs frame as a Freshman at Clear Spring High School.

Kannon became larger than life. He loved his teammates and their success. He loved them on and off the field as he never spoke a jealous word. He trusted his faith and the lord’s journey for him. He displayed that as he led prayer with the team before every game.

In Kannon’s last few months on earth he received numerous full scholarships to Division 1 baseball programs. Won the Maryland 1A State Title in 2022, as he closed out the game on the mound. First Team honors along with numerous other accolades. All of those were great but his connection to the youth, his school, his town, his family, his legacy through hard work, humility, humanity, and his love for baseball is what allowed him to touch the souls of people. Not his fastball or doubles in the gap. Kannon’s smile, the look of fearlessness, the roar of approval when someone had a successful moment. That was Kannon’s fame that has become his “legacy.”

If you are reading this and have received a challenge coin from a player, coach, or a recipient that has passed it on congratulations. Obviously they saw a trait in you that resembled Kannon’s path of life. Keep the coin, pass it on to someone the same way you received it.

Take a moment, say a small prayer of thankfulness for your life and journey. Share kindness, respect, and be like Kannon in your journey.
